A lot of people deal with mental health challenges differently. Some choose therapy and some go other routes. I have seen a therapist from time to time, but for several months I have been on a waitlist, so I have had to find other means of managing my mental health. Here are a few that have been helpful:
Getting Regular Exercise: I like to go to the local pool and swim at least twice a week and do strength training once a week. I also like to take a lot of walks. Regular physical exercise has been proven to decrease symptoms of anxiety, OCD, depression, and other mental health disorders.
I also like to spend time outside in nature as much as I can. I like to look at the trees and listen to the birds as I think about things or sometimes, I sing a Beatles song. I love the Beatles. I have loved them ever since my early teens. Listening to music is also another good coping skill that helps.
I also like to do short meditation sessions sometimes at the end of the day. I do have friends I talk to about what is going on in my life, especially if something is bothersome or difficult, and I need help working through it. And of course, I occasionally like to do fun things. I like to go to trivia or go to the movies or the bookstore or out to dinner or teach my dog Thomas new tricks. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health challenges, please reach out to someone or go to a licensed mental health provider in your area.
